Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust has achieved Stage 6 validation under the HIMSS Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model, becoming one of a select number of NHS organisations recognised for advanced digital maturity through the HIMSS benchmarked framework.

EMRAM is a global framework that measures the adoption and maturity of a health facility’s electronic medical record capabilities on a scale from 0 to 7. 

Frimley Health’s validation follows an on-site assessment conducted on 12 June by HIMSS digital health assessors. The evaluation reviewed the trust’s organisational structure, digital strategy and governance model, alongside observations across multiple clinical and operational areas including pharmacy, intensive care, laboratory services, blood transfusion, inpatient wards, emergency care, radiology and outpatient services.

During the assessment, HIMSS identified strong alignment between digital infrastructure and day-to-day clinical practice, supported by widespread adoption across care settings and multidisciplinary engagement. Highlighted in the validation was the trust’s multidisciplinary divisional management model, which brings together operational leadership with embedded expertise across human resources, finance and information functions. This integrated approach supports clinical teams with timely access to data and operational insight to strengthen decision-making, performance management and continuous improvement efforts.

Caroline Hutton, Deputy Chief Executive and Executive Lead for Digital Services at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, said the validation reflects the trust’s continued investment in digital capability and the integration of technology into everyday care delivery.

Achievement of EMRAM Stage 6 places the organisation on a pathway toward Stage 7, the highest level of HIMSS digital maturity validation, which recognises health systems demonstrating enterprise-wide digital transformation and measurable outcomes at scale.
